Governor's Cup Titles Excite Perez, Dinu

Winners of the second leg of the 2012 Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship, Enrique Lopez-Perez  of Spain and Romanian, Cristina Dinu are glad winning the ITF pro circuit.

Perez, who earlier won the Men’s Singles of the first leg, defeated South African, Ruan Roelofse in straight sets of 6-0, 6-4, while Dinu, who also was first leg winner, defeated Switzerland’s Conny Perrin in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 to win the Women’s Singles.

After receiving his trophy from Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday, the Spaniard was happy to make it double in this year’s Governor’s Cup. “The Governor’s Cup has been a wonderful tournament for me and I’m happy winning it,” he said.

Dinu was also excited that she won the competition in her first time of visiting Lagos. “This is my first time in Lagos and I’m glad that I didn’t come here for the fun of it. The tournament has been so good and the people I met here. It is my wish to be here again next time,” she said after receiving her trophy from the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Meanwhile, Governor Fashola has described the standard of the 12th Governor’s Cup as very high compared to the previous editions. He praised the gallantry of the winners and called on the foreign players to tell their people back home of the good hospitality they received in Lagos, while playing in the Governor’s Cup.
