National Sports Festival: 18,000 Security Officers For Games

At least 18,000 security personnel will be on ground to ensure security of lives during the EKO 2012 National Sports Festival, which will holds from 27 November – 9 December.

The Lagos State Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Vincent Brown,

w who is also the chairman of the security subcommittee of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, disclosed that members of the Nigerian Police, Armed Forces, State Security Service, SSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Transport Monitoring Agency and Neighbourhood Watch will provide 24 hours security service for the games.

“We’ve co-opted all the security agencies to ensure good security for the games, while vehicular movement would also be our priority,” he said.

The Head of Operation department of the Lagos State Police Command noted that over 1,500 security personnel would be deployed to the Teslim Balogun Stadium for the opening ceremony, while 500 security officers would be permanently assigned to the Teslim Balogun Stadium to provide a suitable ambiance devoid of rancor, crime and harassment to make the visitors happy.

According to him, the committee has also mapped out strategy to extend its security network to all the neighboring states as well as nation’s border at Seme, Badagry, since international visitors are being expected for the EKO 2012 Games.
