500 Stewards For Training

As part of a groundbreaking safety and security initiative put in place to ensure that Lagos State hosts a hitch free 18th National Sports Festival, NSF, come 27 November to 9 December, 2012, the security subcommittee of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, at the weekend trained 500 stewards for the Games.

The training seminar that was held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Saturday and Sunday, saw over 700 applicants turned up for the 2-Day event that was anchored by Vice Chairman of the security subcommittee Tade Azeez and member, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Gideon Akinsola.

P.MNews gathered that Saturday was devoted to screen some of the participants to arrive at the 500 stewards needed during and after the festival. A 2-hours lecture was also given to the prospective stewards on what woud be expected from them during the festival.

While on Sunday,  the stewards were trained by ACP Akinsola on how to control and manage crowd at various venues to be used for the festival.

According to Azeez, while lecturing the stewards on their duties at various venues of the festival, the stewards are not expected to create panic venues of the Games but for them to carry out their duties according to directives given to them by their supervisors.

Speaking on Sunday, ACP Akinsola informed the stewards that they are to complement securitymen’s jobs during and after the festival, adding that their conducts would be crucial to the success of the sports festival.
