Chairman of Lagos State Volleyball Association, Owolabi Martins says his team are not afraid of defending champions, Team Ondo at the 18th National Sports Festival, which officially commences today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.
The Ondo State male volleyball team won the gold medal at the last edition of the festival, held at the Garden City in Port Harcourt in 2011, while their women’s team crashed out in the quarter final.
Martins told P.M.NEWS that his team are not afraid of any team including Team Ondo, boasting that Team Lagos have what it takes to win the gold medal in both the male and female categories.
“I am impressed with the team’s preparation in the last few weeks. And, we are aware that Team Ondo are defending champions in the male category, but I want to tell the Lagosians that our team are fully ready to dethrone Ondo and win gold medal in both the male and female categories,” he said.
Martins said it will be a huge disappointment if his team fail to win the gold medal for the hosts, Lagosians, considering the fact that the Lagos State government has financially and materially supported the team throughout their period in camp.
