Cricket: Lagos, Rivers In 2nd Round

Hosts, Lagos State, Rivers and Ogun have qualified for the second round of the cricket event of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival after they played their last round of matches in the first round yesterday.

Rivers qualified with 6 points in Group 1 at TBS Oval, Onikan, Lagos secured 6 points to scale the hurdles in Group 2 at Unilag cricket pitch, while at Jubril Martins High School cricket pitch, Ogun also qualified with 6 points.

With 3 points each, Kaduna (Group 1), Anambra (Group 2) and Delta (Group 3) also made it to the second round.

In the match played yesterday TBS Oval, Rivers defeated Borno by 427 runs. Rivers amassed 454 for 7 in 40 overs. Sokoto responded with a paltry 27 all out in 10 overs.

At Unilag cricket pitch, Anambra defeated Imo by 9 wickets. Imo was bowled out for 46 runs in 13.1 overs. Anambra finished the job, scoring 47 runs for 1 in 9.4 overs.

At the Jubril Martins High School cricket pitch, Delta defeated Sokoto by 6 wickets. Sokoto won the toss and elected to bat. They were bowled out for 97 runs in 31.1 overs. Team Delta cruised to victory, scoring 98 runs in 27.2 overs. Oghenekevwe from Delta scored 20 not out in 38 balls.

Meanwhile, in the second round matches which begin today, Ogun will take on hosts, Lagos at the Unilag pitch, while Rivers battle Anambra at the TBS Oval.
