Team Delta on Saturday continued its dominance of the male football event of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos without scoring a goal. It simply had a walkover on Team Adamawa in Group A.

The Delta football team leads the group with 12 points, having won four matches.

It is followed by Team Lagos which had earlier lost to Delta with nine points and Team Katsina, which has six points and Team Oyo with three.

Team Plateau also has no point so far, like Team Adamawa which failed to honour its match with Team Delta.

NAN reports that at the kick off time, the Adamawa team did not show up and the match officials observed the rules before awarding the game’s three points to Team Delta.

When contacted, Olushola Ogunnowo, Head, Friendly Matches Unit of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), said Adamawa had dropped their football team from the competition.

Ogunnowo, who is the match official, said that they explained that they were faced with internal problems.

“The Adamawa football team has got through to us via the telephone, explaining why they could not make it.

“They said that they had the football team ready, but were faced with internal problems.

“Even their athletes who are participating in other sports came on that day of the opening ceremony and it took them two days to travel down to Lagos,” he said.

Kenneth Ikpahwore, Head Coach of Team Delta, said he was still confident that his team would make it to the second round.
