E kaale Nigeria! With that terse salutation in Yoruba, American reality television star, Kim Kardashian opened last Sunday, 17 February ‘Love…Like A Movie’ concert of R&B star Darey Art Alade.

The packed concert, held at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, amidst blinding fireworks, hair-raising acrobatics, and all the special effects one can think of, saw the host, Darey, digging from his rich repertoire. And for over three hours, Darey pulled all the stops to make sure guests got the experience of a lifetime.

He opened the gig with the theme track, ‘Love Like A Movie’ followed by ‘Sisi Eko’. He later performed the ballad ‘Not The Girl’ before he did a rendition of ‘Lady in Red’ by Chris Deburgh and Boys II Men’s ‘I’ll Make Love To You’ and ‘End of The Road’ (featuring four of Nigeria’s greatest voices Banky W, Timi Dakolo, Praiz and Tolu). He closed the remarkable night with the  track, Asiko, featuring Ice Prince and MoEazy.

“We thought it worthwhile to partner with Darey on this event which is premium, stylish and extraordinary —values which are associated with Fayrouz. The show has brought a new dimension to the music and entertainment industry in Nigeria. The concert also featured performances by 2Face Idibia, Waje, Ice Prince, Kaffy,  Zaina, FARFADAIS and Circque du Soleil by KITONB an extreme theatre group.

Commenting on the show, the producer, Darey disclosed that he was able to make a new statement that offered music lovers the best of music, art, drama and dance with live performances. ‘’The show would go down in the history of concerts in Nigeria as the best. I mean it,’’ commented film producer Charles Novia. While top blogger, Linda Ikeji said of the show: “Darey’s show was incredible. The best show I’ve seen in Nigeria…hands down.”

Kim Kardashian was flown in to co-host the platinum red carpet with Darey, attend the special LLAM dinner and open the show that stole everyone’s attention.

Bob Manuel Now SSA To Gov. Obi

Actor Bob Manuel-Udokwu has joined the league of entertainers taking appointments with government. He has been appointed the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) on Creative Media to the governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

An elated Udokwu said that he is honoured to be called to serve his state in that capacity, and thanked God for giving him the privilege.

Udokwu who hails from Ogidi, Anambra State, is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt.

Miss West Africa Nigeria Berths

Arrangements are in top gear by the leadership of the current Miss West Africa International to host the Miss West Africa Nigeria 2013 in Asaba, Delta State, south-south Nigeria.

The Miss West Africa International concept was introduced in 2010 with a view to discovering various regional Miss West Africa Queens such as Miss West Africa Nigeria, United Kingdom and Canada to compete for the Miss West Africa International crown.

The beauty pageant is now a worldwide contest in which only Miss West Africa regional winners can participate.

Auditions were  held in Abuja, Lagos Port Harcourt and Asaba last week, while camping begun 17 February. The winner will be crowned at the grand finale ceremony tomorrow in Asaba, Delta State.

The winner will go home with a brand new car and also represent Nigeria at the Miss West Africa International on 23 March in Cape Verde.

D1 Drops  GoDown Low

Hip hop music act, Adedayo Olawunmi, otherwise known as D1, has released a new single, Go Down Low.

Produced by Charles Production, the song features TJ Blinks, and according to D1, his primary aim is to set a standard in the competitive music industry.

“Go Down Low is a party song rendered in a unique way. In as much as I want people to dance, they should also learn one or two things. Meanwhile, it is just a tip of the iceberg; my album, which will be released later this year will definitely set a new standard for others to follow,” D1 said.

Born and bred in Lagos, D1 started his music career in 2007. His debut single was released a year later. “But I decided to take a little break, go back to the drawing board in order to come out in a bigger way. Right now, it’s my turn to shine,” he enthused.
