ACN Wins Ajeromi By-Election

The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has won Tuesday’s by-election in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

The election became imperative following the death of ACN’s councilor in Ward ‘A’ last year, Abayomi Akintokun.

The election was conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC in Ward ‘A’ at Alayabiagba.

In the results announced, the ACN’s candidate, Olubukola Wilson won by landslide by polling 1,965 votes as against the 339 votes polled by his rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Bashiru Afolabi.

ACN also won in all the 39 units, beating the PDP’s candidate even in his own polling unit 0031.

The returning officer, Mr. Akin Agbaje, who announced the result, declared the ACN’s candidate, Wilson winner of the election and would fill the seat hitherto occupied by the last Akintokun.

Reacting to the victory, the ACN’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe said he was not surprised as his party had taken a dominant hold on Lagos.

He stated that the PDP was not on ground in Lagos and that there was no way the party could have pulled a surprise, adding that the result showed how future elections in the state would go as there were no vacancy for PDP anymore in Lagos.
