On 25 May, 2011, Michael Essien, as part of his commitment to promote and rally support for PEACE in AFRICA., hosted World Football Stars in a football match between a selected African X1 side led by himself and a world X1 side led by Ashley Cole at the National Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
The occasion was rated as the best event organised in Ghana that year and the best sporting event in many years because of the huge patronage and entertainment during the game.
Essien is a Peace Ambassador appointed by the African Union, AU, in 2010 to use his status as an African and international footballer to promote peace in Africa.
The latest Essien initiative is expected to create huge awareness of the need for Africans themselves to make an effort to inspire the youth towards peace, hope and inspiration.
