Veteran Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus is expected to become the new head coach of Portugal’s national football team after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reports indicate that the 71-year-old has agreed to take over from Roberto Martinez, who will leave his position when his contract expires after the World Cup campaign.
Jesus recently left Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, where he won the Saudi Pro League title with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo playing a key role in the team.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, stating that Jesus has accepted the job and will oversee Portugal’s preparations for future competitions, including the UEFA Nations League, Euro 2028, and the next World Cup cycle.
The experienced manager has previously coached top clubs such as Benfica, Sporting CP, and Brazilian side Flamengo. His impressive record at both club and international levels is believed to have influenced Portugal’s decision to appoint him.
The Portuguese Football Federation is expected to officially announce the appointment in the coming days. Jesus will be tasked with building on Portugal’s recent performances and preparing the team for future tournaments.
