Seattle Sounders Take Martins To Specialist

Obafemi Martins has landed on the treatment table after just one game for Seattle Sounders, as the MLS club sent him off to a specialist to treat an old injury.

The Nigeria striker was absent during the 1-0 home loss to Mexican side, Santos Laguna in the first leg of the CONCACAF semi final Champions League showdown last Wednesday.

And with Martins still struggling with movement, the club felt it was better to pack him off for treatment, instead of further aggravating the injury by risking him for the second leg next Tuesday. “Martins’ situation is aggravating and our doctors and trainers didn’t feel he could play on Tuesday,” team coach, Schmid said.

“He’s had this injury before and he was treated by a doctor, so we let him go back to see that doctor and then he’ll be back early next week. We’ll be in communication and hopefully whatever the guy did the last time will resolve it and he’ll be able to do it again.”

Schmid added: “He was going to be out for Tuesday anyway so we figured now was a good window to get that fixed. And then hopefully he’ll be ready to go by the time we play New England on 13 April.

Martins had blocked out the injury to play for Sounders against Real Salt Lake in an MLS game, he lasted just 62 minutes before being hauled off.
