7 kidnappers killed, Lebanese regains freedom

A Lebanese contractor with Consolidated Construction Company, Mr Roumauos Marroun, abducted 7 May has regained his freedom.

Marroun, kidnapped at the gate of the Igbariam Campus of the Anambra State University, was freed, along with a few other captives, after the Nigerian police in the state, arrested two members of the kidnapping gang, following a shoot-out.

Seven suspected kidnappers were killed, while two others were captured and they led the the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to their den where Marroun was found.

The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the shoot-out took place at Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Council Area of the state at around 4.00 p.m. on May 10.

The spokesman said that two of the suspects were captured at the point of collecting a ransom of five million naira.

He said that the suspects later took security men to their hideout, where some kidnapped people were rescued unhurt at about 8.30 p.m.

He said that one of the rescued victims, simply identified as Mr Anthony, was kidnapped at Onitsha, a week ago and taken to a building, belonging to a Lagos-based businessman.
