Don Jazzy, 2Face, Others End Star Music Trek In Grand Style

The grand finale of Star Music Trek held on Saturday, 10 August in Surulere, Lagos Nigeria will go down the 12-year history of the event as one of the most exciting.

In line with promises from the organisers that this year’s grand finale would offer massive surprises to music lovers, thousands of fans trooped to the National Stadium venue of the concert to watch their favourite headline acts take their final bow from the event.

There were surprise performances from fast rising acts such as Seriki, Zaina, Konga, Mr. 2kay, Laff Up, Ajebutter and many others to set the tone for the night.

They kept music fans  cheering to each performance until the top stars stormed the stage one after the other.

Crystals, the 2012 Star Quest winners, chose to sign out of the Trek with a captivating performance of some of their hit songs. The band, which has gained enormous fan base since the Trek began, performed excellently.

Waje’s captivating voice will be the talk of many for some time to come. The songstress who debuted on the Trek with an amazing outing, made sure fans enjoyed every minute of her 45-minute performance with her live band.

One of the major surprises promised was Sound Sultan, who has just released his 6th studio album.

Tiwa Savage is fast becoming a performer’s performer, with her deft dance moves and dexterity in choreography. The talented singer makes every stage performance worthy of endless encores.

Don Jazzy’s surprise appearance to perform the duet, ‘Eminado’ with Savage electrified the crowd and left many marvelling at how committed the producer is to his artiste’s act.

The master beatmaker also made a return back on stage during Dr. Sid’s slot as the two performed a duet of the crowd’s favourite Lady Don Dada.

There isn’t a crowd that JMartins can’t captivate. The talaented singer was obviously thrilled to perform again and fans reciprocated the enthusiasm and showed their massive approval.

Wande Coal, again weaved his magic, first stepping in as yet another surprise act at the Trek and also completely captivating his die-hard fans throughout his 45-minute performance, no mean feat for any artiste before a highly expectant audience.

There’s no doubt, it’s the year of Ice Prince. Back to back concerts, numerous awards and of course the never-ending adoration of his teeming fans. Ice Prince who had only hours earlier arrived the country from Amsterdam from a concert in which he performed, took time to thank his fans profusely for supporting him strongly right from the early days of his career.

His mentor rap genius M.I, who discovered him, was the last surprise performance of the night, storming the stage to perform in a most fitting set.

Superstar 2Face Idibia, like wine, keeps getting better with age, and fans who waited patiently from late noon of the previous day till early morning of the next day to watch their favourite performer were certainly not disappointed.

Together with his live band, 2Face dished out an exciting medley of his greatest hits that kept the excited crowd on its feet. Idibia engaged with fans, having a musical conversation that lasted until the early hours of the morning.

This year’s Star Music Trek kicked off on 8 June at FESTAC, Lagos. The train hit other eight cities including Lokoja, Owerri, Enugu, Aba, Asaba, Abeokuta, and Agege, and then capped with the scintillating grand finale at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
