The burial rites for retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Saidu Kawu, will take place today in Ilorin, capital of the central state of Kwara.
Kawu died yesterday at the age of 85.
Justice Suleiman Kawu, the eldest son of the deceased, confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
He said that the late jurist died on Wednesday evening in Ilorin.
In a condolence message, Governor Abdulfatah Ahamed described the death of Kawu, who also was the Madawaki of Ilorin, as a painful loss to the State and the country.
Governor Ahmed in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, said the death of Justice kawu marked the close of a chapter in the annals of the country’s judiciary.
Dr. Ahmed recalled that Justice Kawu through his sojourn in the judiciary in Kwara state as Chief Judge and at the Supreme Court left indelible marks in the sand of time.
According to the governor, justice Kawu, through his judicial pronouncements helped in shaping and developing judicial process in the country.
