Child, 7 others die in road accident

The Sector commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission in Nigerian central state of Kogi, Mr. Godwin Omiko has confirmed that a child and seven others were killed in a road accident on the Lokoja-Abuja highway.

He disclosed that the accident which involved a white Toyota passenger bus and a truck with registration number Lagos EKY 244 XG, occurred at about 6 a.m. at Ohono village, near Koton Karfe.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Omiko identified the other victims as four women and three men, who were said to be going to Okene from Kano. The driver also died in the accident.

Omiko blamed the accident on human error, adding that the truck was on speed when the Toyota passenger bus with registration number Kogi XB 641 LKJ from Abuja rammed into it, killing the eight persons on the spot.

The Kogi FRSC commander disclosed further that the corpses and the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, adding that investigation into the accident was underway.
