NASU’s N100m empowerment materials in Oyo

The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Schools and Colleges, Oyo State Chapter, on Thursday in Ibadan distributed empowerment materials worth N100 million to members.

The materials were distributed at the maiden edition of NASU Day and launching of a N500 million union office complex.

The Chairman of the union, Samson Adeleye, told journalists on the sidelines of the programme that its ‘Toju Ale’ empowerment scheme was to provide adequate welfare for members on retirement.

The materials distributed were motorcycles, deep freezers, power generating sets, bundles of iron sheet, photocopier machines and laptop computers.

He said the maiden edition of NASU Day was to bring members together to discuss their challenges and recommend solutions.

Adeleye also urged the state government to employ more guards for schools, recalling that some institutions in Ibadan, Eruwa and Iseyin were recently burgled.

He also urged the state government to employ staff to fill the existing vacancies occasioned by retirement and death of members.

The union leader commended the state government for the prompt payment of gratuity and pension to members of the union.

“But we frown over our non-inclusion in the implementation of the Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) being enjoyed by the teachers,” he added.

Prof. Solomon Olaniyonu, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, on his part assured the union of more support, saying its demands would be looked into.

NAN reports that the occasion was attended by Hon. Ibrahim Bolomope, the lawmaker representing Egbeda State Constituency, and Mr Dele Akinleye, the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Political Matters.
