Police warn residents against rumour mongering

Alhaji Shaibu Gambo, Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, on Friday appealed to residents to avoid rumour mongering, to enhance security situation of the state.

The commissioner was reacting to a rumour that members of the Boko Haram sect planned to kidnap some nurses and medical health workers in the state.

“There is no cause for alarm as far as security situation in the state is concerned,” Gambo told NAN.

He, however, urged health workers to go about their businesses, stressing that adequate security measures had been put in place to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Gambo said that the police were well prepared to prevent any act of insurgency.

“We have put in place effective security measures that would enable residents move on with their legitimate activities,” he said.

He said that the command would continue to adopt proactive measures to confront security threat in the state.

Gambo tasked residents to be security conscious in confronting the security challenges in the country.

He appealed to the people to volunteer to offer information that would lead to the arrest of criminals.
