Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Thursday denied Bastian Schweinsteiger would move to Manchester United in exchange for Angel Di Maria.

“That’s something I can for once completely deny,” he said in Munich.

“That has never been discussed and was never part of the considerations – neither here in Munich nor in Manchester.”

Schweinsteiger, who has another year on his contract, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Rummenigge, who plans to speak soon with Schweinsteiger about his future, said that in talking with the midfielder on the telephone “I could hear that he had been flattered’ by United’s interest.

Bayern’s squad planning for the new season was still continuing. “I think there will still be one or two changes at Bayern,” he said.

He would neither confirm nor deny an interest in Argentina forward Di Maria, who some British media reports say could be on his way to Paris Saint-German.

Rummenigge meanwhile said there was plenty of time to discuss a new contract with coach Pep Guardiola whose current deal expires at the end of the new season.

Rummenigge had said earlier this year he wanted to negotiate a new deal with Guardiola in the second half of the year.

“I think we have a good chance that Pep Guardiola will remain coach of Bayern Munich after June 30, 2016,” he said.
