The managing director of Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr Oladimeji Oresanya, has resigned his appointment as the head of the agency.
Oresanya became the managing director of the agency in 2005, during the regime of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, as the governor of the state.
Speaking on the resignation on Tuesday, Oresanya said he is only leaving LAWMA for another agency, which he said would be determined by the state government.
He also stated that he is leaving LAWMA to give another young person the opportunity to transform the agency. He however stated that he is still in government, and will continue to serve the state.
He said; “am not resigning, its only deployment. Though, my deployment would be determine by the state government.
“I am still in government, I’m only leaving LAWMA to give another person a chance to develop the organisation and contribute his or her quota to the agency in the state.
“Having being the managing director of LAWMA for 10 years, and served the state for 20 years, I thinks I should give another person chance. But I am still in the government.”
Oresanya recently held a special thanksgiving service to commemorate his 10 years headship of the agency.
During his reign as the managing director of LAWMA, Oresanya introduced many innovations to waste management in the state, these include introduction of Private Service Providers, PSPs, rehabilitation of three Transfer Loading Stations, TLS, purchase of many waste trucks, construction of Recovery Material Facility, RMF, at Solous, Igando, and many others.
