Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that APC candidates for the forthcoming legislative rerun elections were not campaigning because they had a plot to rig elections.

He declared that the plot will fail as all Rivers people are determined never to return back to the days of mischievous and unproductive leadership.

The governor also assured the people of Etche Local Government Area that after the completion of the Igwuruta-Chokocho-Etche road, his administration will tackle the Igbo-Eleme road in the area to completely kick-start the Etche economy.

Addressing Etche people at Chokocho town after inspecting ongoing work on the Igwuruta-Chokocho-Etche road on Tuesday, Wike urged the people to vote Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidates in the rerun elections as that is the only way that the construction of the roads will be consolidated.

He said it is only the PDP that has remembered the Etche people, noting that, the immediate past administration of APC in the state failed the people by abandoning the project to the area.

According to the governor, the Etche people must support the PDP in both state and national assembly rerun elections for greater development to be witnessed in the communities through rancour-free release of funds for projects.

“As you can see, the APC candidates are no longer campaigning because they think they can use security agencies to rig the polls. But that will not be possible. I want to ask all of you to be vigilant and to protect your votes.

“Before anyone will arrest you, that person will first arrest me. The forthcoming election must be free and fair in Rivers State. That is all that will take place. Let the vote of the people count. ”

The governor was accompanied on the inspection visit by Chief Jerome Eke, PDP House of Representatives candidate for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency, Prince Emma Anyanwu, PDP Chieftain in Etche and other leaders of Etche Local Government Area.

The Igwuruta-Chokocho-Etche road project has progressed since the last inspection visit of the governor.
