APC blasts Obi over life threat claim: ‘You are hallucinating’

“So, maybe Obi needs a psychiatric evaluation to know whether or not he is hallucinating. As far as we are concerned, the statement he made was born out of hallucination,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a fierce attack on Peter Obi after the 2027 presidential hopeful claimed he could face threats to his life, dismissing the allegation as a product of “hallucination.”
APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, accused the former Anambra State governor of making baseless claims and seeking attention instead of presenting a credible political alternative.
Basiru said Obi had lost political relevance and insisted that the ruling party was focused on governance rather than responding to what he described as unfounded allegations.
“Obi has no relevance. Obi has been consigned to irrelevance,” Basiru said.
The APC chieftain went further, suggesting that Obi needed a psychological evaluation over his comments.
“So, maybe Obi needs a psychiatric evaluation to know whether or not he is hallucinating. As far as we are concerned, the statement he made was born out of hallucination,” he said.
Obi had earlier alleged that the Federal Government was frustrating his activities and those of other opposition figures, adding that he might not even be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The remarks triggered reactions from opposition groups, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the Obidient Movement Worldwide and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, who accused the government of targeting opposition voices.
But Basiru dismissed the accusations, saying the APC remained confident of defeating Obi and other opposition candidates again in 2027.
He challenged opposition parties to focus on presenting policies to Nigerians rather than making what he described as fear-driven allegations.
According to him, the APC’s record in government would determine the outcome of the next presidential election.
