The Police Command in Sokoto State has advised residents to be watchful and security conscious during and after the Independence day celebrations.
The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir, told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto on Friday that the command had adopted some proactive security measures that would enable residents to observe the festivities in a peaceful atmosphere.
He said that that plain clothes security personnel had been deployed in and outside Sokoto city to aid the command to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
He promised to deploy security personnel to public places such as recreation centres and motor parks, to ensure the safety of the residents.
The Commissioner solicited the support of stakeholders in mobilising residents to offering intelligence reports that could lead to the arrest of bad elements in the state.
