2 arrested over attempted murder of police man

Two men–Jamiu Salawu, 25, and Obadimu Gbemiga 43, –were on Thursday remanded by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for the attempted murder of a policeman.

The duo, who had no fixed address, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder by shooting with a gun.

The prosecutor, Insp Famous Edigue, told the court that the accused persons and others at large committed the offence on Feb. 7 at about 8:00pm at Ita- Ajala Iberekodo in Abeokuta.

He alleged that the duo attempted to kill one police officer, Insp Olusoji Osonuga, by shooting him with a gun in the head.

Edigue said the offence contravened sections 516 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The plea of the accused persons was not taken by court.

The magistrate, Mr Babajide Ilo, granted the duo bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison until they perfected their bail conditions.

The magistrate also directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to obtain legal advice.

Ilo adjourned the case till Dec. 16. for further hearing.
