Police Arraign 12 Men

The Police on Wednesday brought 12 people before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for criminal conspiracy and belonging to unlawful society.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Omaye Ujata, told the court that the case was transferred from Otukpo Division to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Makurdi.

Ujata said that a joint team of police, Anti- Cultism Members, Vigilante and Denounced Cultists, arrested the accused persons on March 20 during a raid in Otukpo Town.

“Those arrested include: Enenche Agada, 20; Moses Onovo, 20; Ogbu Onyemeachi, 25; John Akindele, 29; Christian Okete, 19 and Emmanuel Joseph, 34.

Others are: Daniel Samson, 28; Linus Emmanuel, 21; Moses Oko, 22; Samuel Anuga, 33 and Joseph Ameh, 30.

She said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 99 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004, Cap 124 revised edition suggested.

Each of the accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed, granted bail to each of them in the sum of N100, 000 with one reasonable surety each in like sum.

Mohammed said that the sureties must reside within Makurdi Town.

He adjourned the case until May 18 for mention.
