A 28-year-old scavenger, Abubakar Salisu, was on Wednesday arraigned at a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass and attempted theft.
Salisu, who reside in Ereke Junction, Karmo, Abuja, was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass, mischief and attempt to commit theft.
He was, however, released on bail by the court in the sum of N20, 000, with a surety in like sum, after he denied committing the offences.
In the ruling, the judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, ordered that the surety should produce his current utility bills and reasonable means of identification.
Sadiq also directed that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had informed the court that on July 3, one Nev Othaniel of Karmo, reported the matter at Karmo Police Station.
Florence said that the defendant, at about 1 a.m. on July 3, criminally and dishonestly broke into the complainant’s house with intention to commit an offence of theft.
She told the court that while the defendant was in the process of stealing, he was caught by the complainant and was taken to the police station for proper investigation.
Florence said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.
She told the court that the offences contravened Sections 327, 349 and 95 of the Penal Code.
The judge adjourned the case to Aug. 9.
