Anambra Guber Poll: YPP to hold primaries Aug. 26

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) on Wednesday announced that it had slated Aug. 26 for its primary election ahead of the Nov. 18 Anambra governorship election.

In a statement by the Director of Press and Publicity, Mr Tika Auta, in Abuja, the party said that aspirants had bought forms and were awaiting screening.

It said that the date for the primary was reached after deliberations by members of the National Working Committee.

“We resolved that Aug. 26, 2017 is approved for the Anambra Gubernatorial Primary Election to elect our party’s candidate.

“We approve the enforcement of the provisions of Articles 35.7 and 35.8 of the party’s constitution, from the next meeting, to maintain high level of discipline among members.”

The party congratulated Nigerian youths on the celebration of the International Youth Day.

It urged the youths to keep faith with the country at “this trying time’’ and synergise to work for peace, unity, accountability and service.

The party also called on the youths to support it for a better Nigeria, saying that through it, a credible leadership would be enthroned at governorship at all levels in the country from 2019.

It commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its effectiveness and efficiency in the registration of the new political parties, including the YPP.
