US Congress delegation meets Osinbajo on security challenges

A delegation of the U.S. Congress led by Sen. Chris Coons (Delaware) is currently in Nigeria to explore areas of bi-partisan relationship between the U.S. government and Nigeria.

The delegation on Monday met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa where it reaffirmed its commitment to learn more about ongoing challenges in the areas of security, health and development.

Coons, who addressed State House Correspondents, said that the delegation comprised Republicans and Democrats in the Senate and House of Representatives.

“We had a terrific meeting with the Vice President and members of the cabinet and senior advisers.

“We are in Nigeria both to offer our sustained and bi-partisan commitment to the U.S.-Nigeria relationship, to learn more about ongoing challenges in terms of security, health and development.

“But also, to celebrate the opportunities, the entrepreneurship, the energy of many sectors in Nigeria from filmmaking to job creation to innovation.

“We have had a wonderful visit so far and we are grateful to the Vice President for a chance to meet this evening.’’

Coins said that the delegation represents the state’s of California, Florida, Colorado, Michigan and Delaware.
