The Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government, Chief Chijioke Edoga, has advised the 17 council chairmen in the state to prioritise security matters in their council areas.
Edoga told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday that the advice became imperative in view of the prevailing security threats around the nation.
The commissioner called on the chairmen to liaise with the traditional rulers in beefing up security in their communities.
According to him, the traditional rulers in the villages are in a better position to detect suspicious movements in their respective communities.
He urged them to mount detectors at the council’s gates to enable them screen all those people visiting the Local Governments.
Edoga gave the assurance that the State Government would continue to do all within its powers to secure the state.
He also advised religious leaders to mount security gadgets in their premises in order to forestall security breaches.
