Anti-kidnapping unit and the special anti-robbery squads of the Rivers State Police Command are on the manhunt for the gunmen who kidnapped a medical doctor in his consulting room at Oboloma Health Centre in Asari-Toru local government area of the state.

Dr Kikere Ramson’s whereabouts is not known and his abductors have not contacted his family.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Dike who confirmed the incident also condemned the act, describing it as ”sacrilegious” to abduct a doctor on duty.

He called on the kidnappers to release the medical doctor unconditionally.

Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Datonye Alasia said the frequent abduction of medical doctors in this part of the world is is not only unethical but inhuman.

“Why should criminals abduct a medical doctor from his consulting room while attending to patients who direly need medicare in rural areas where there are large population of the poorest of the poor. We therefore call for his unconditional release.”

He called on security agents and the state government to ensure his unconditional release.
