Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD) says it has resolved over 14,000 petitions and court cases between January and December 2017.

A statement issued and signed by the Director, OPD revealed that compensation received on behalf of clients through mediation in 2017 was N189, 074,957.

According to the statement, 7,470 court cases were attended to from January to December 2017; while 4, 662 petitions were received.

The statement added that 1,300 petitions were concluded, while 49 rescue missions were carried out, among others.

It would be recalled that since its inception, the OPD has recorded appreciable successes in defending the masses.

The OPD was established in 2000 to serve as an agency of the Lagos State Government saddled with the major responsibility of providing free legal service and other related functions to the masses, especially the less privileged and the vulnerable.
