The Proprietor of Nacabs Polytechnic, Akwanga, Mr David Abuluya, has advised students to shun cultism and other social vices by imbibing discipline.
Abuluya gave the advice in on Tuesday in Akwanga.
He noted that the education sector was plagued by cultism, examination malpractice, armed robbery and rape, among other social vices, warning that the management of the institution will not spare any erring students.
He enjoined the students to study hard in order to excel and to justify their parents’ huge investment in their education.
The proprietor restated his commitment towards improving the condition of service for the institution’s staff and students’ standard of living.
Abuluya also urged the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to update new platform for admission system in Nigeria so as to accommodate the increasing number of candidates taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
He stressed the need for JAMB to make it easy for its candidates to access institutions of their choice, saying the private polytechnics in the country should also be allowed access to such candidates as “an inclusive policy”.
“JAMB should review its accessibility policy and update new platform for admission system in Nigeria to cater for a large number of candidates not admitted in previous admissions.
“Private polytechnics in Nigeria had a serious setback in 2017/2018 session admission, from 44 private polytechnics in Nigeria, no single Polytechnic is proud to have 100 students direct from JAMB as obtainable in last year’s admission.
“Private polytechnics have not met their carry capacity as directed by the regulatory body, as a result of porous admission policy and system, leaving a large number of candidates without admission in 2017/2018, hence the need for the appeal to JAMB,” he said.
