El-Rufai's anti-Jonathan comments haunt Buhari [Video]

Buhari and Governor El-Rufai

Talk is indeed cheap. Some of Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s comments in 2014/2015 about former President Goodluck Jonathan have now resonated back to haunt him and President Muhammadu Buhari.

As the internet forgets nothing, video clips of El-Rufai’s attacks on Jonathan administration resurfaced on Twitter Saturday, sending the pugnacious governor top of Nigeria’s Twitter trends.

In one of the videos, he assailed Jonathan for poor leadership record and for allowing the Naira to depreciate to N240, from N120 that President Obasanjo left it.

The exchange rate has now gotten worse, under El-Rufai’s President Buhari.

Though official rate is N416 as at Friday, in the unofficial market, the Naira is now trading for about N600.

The British pound sterling exchanges for between N750-N770.

In another video, El-Rufai attacked the Jonathan regime for pardoning corrupt politicians, in the aftermath of the pardon granted former Bayelsa governor, Diepreye Alamieyesiagha.

Two weeks ago, the Council of State, headed by Buhari pardoned former governors Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye, who had been jailed for corruption. The council also pardoned 148 other convicts.

The pardon showed Buhari has committed the same grievous sin as Jonathan, making El-Rufai’s critique apt now, like it was seven years ago.

Leading the charge was U.S. based scholar Farooq Kperogi, professor of journalism at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, who gave El-Rufai an upper cut:

“Ha! I wonder what Nasir El-Rufai will say now that Buhari has pardoned convicted ex governors. He thought GEJ rewarded corruption and encouraged young people to be corrupt when he pardoned convicted criminals. The more things change the more they remain the same in Nigeria!”.

Olumuyiwa who goes by the moniker @lord of the idiots on Twitter said:

“There’s an El Rufai hypocrisy video for just about everything”.

Alan Covers @Alancovers also wrote: El Rufai is an occasional documented tribal zealot & bigot. We should not forget he was part of the team who lied their way to power abusing President Goodluck Jonathan at every inch of opportunity. I don’t rate him. He is a failure. He is orchestrating the biggest Genocide in KD”.
