Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered a total clampdown on drivers of vehicles and motorcycles without registered plate number in the state.
Ogun Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said this in a statement on Thursday while warning the public against the use of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in the state.
He said the measure has become necessary as it has been discovered that unregistered vehicles are being used to perpetrate crimes around the state.
Consequently, he said Area commanders and DPOs have been directed to arrest anybody found with unregistered vehicle or motorcycle in any part of the state.
He added that such vehicle or motorcycle will be impounded while the driver will be prosecuted by the police.
Oyeyemi said, “The command wishes to once again warn the general public that driving of unregistered motor or motorcycle in any part of the state will no longer be tolerated.
“This is because, the command has noticed that most crime been committed in the state, most especially, cult related crime are being done through the use of unregistered motors and motorcycles.
“In view of this, the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered a total clampdown on those who have form the habit of using their vehicles and motorcycles without number plate.
Area commanders and DPOs have been directed to arrest anybody found with unregistered motors or motorcycles in any part of the state and such motor or motorcycle should be impounded while the driver will be prosecuted.
“The leadership of all Motorcycle Riders Association in the state are by this release advise to warn their members to desist from riding motorcycles without number plate, as anyone found wanting in this regard will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the provision of the law.
“Also, it has been observed that some motorcycle Riders are using fake number plate on their motorcycles, such act is not only wrong, but criminal in nature. Therefore, anybody caught using fake number plate on motor or motorcycle with all will be made to feel the weight of the law.”
