Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club as he still wants to win more trophies before retirement.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals last season in 38 appearance for United, but he did not win any trophy with the club last season.

The football superstar will be playing in the Europa League next season if he stays with United. He has never played in the Europa League before.

Ronaldo is said to be concerned that United has not bought any player to beef up the squad for next season and asked to be allowed to leave the club.

But United are understood to still want to keep the player as they feel he is crucial for the club next season.

According to Sky Sports, the 37-year-old feels the urge to win even more in the twilight of his career, but is understood to feel that may not be possible at Old Trafford next season.

The 2021/22 campaign was the fifth in succession in which United failed to win a trophy.

Ronaldo re-signed for United last August in a deal worth just under £20m from Juventus and scored 24 goals in 38 games, but at times he cut a frustrated figure as the team faltered under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and then Ralf Rangnick to finish sixth.

Ronaldo, who has one year left on his contract, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Chelsea so far this summer, with the Blues’ new chief Todd Boehly recently meeting with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes.
