Prince Charles Philip Arthur George was on Saturday officially proclaimed King and is now officially bearing the title: Charles III.
The proclamation was made by the Accession Council at St. James’ Palace on Saturday morning.
The Accession Council is a group consisting of members of the Royal Family, the prime minister and other senior politicians and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
They had gathered now at St James’s Palace, the official residence of the sovereign, to proclaim Charles King.
Before his proclamation as king, Penny Mordaunt announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II officially.
Former UK prime ministers, including Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Theresa May were at the event as the proclamation of the new king was read out.
The clerk of the council had read the proclamation thus: “Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to his mercy our late sovereign lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of blessed and glorious memory, by whose decease the crown of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is solely and rightfully come to Prince Charles, Philip Arthur George.
“We therefore, the lords spiritual and temporal of this realm, and members of the House of Commons together with other members of her late majesty’s privy council and representatives of the realms and territories, Alderman, citizens of London and others, with one voice and consent of tongue and heart publish and proclaim that the Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, is now by the death of our late sovereign of happy memory, becomeS our only lawful and happy liege Lord.
“Charles III, by the grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of his other realms and territory, King, head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to whom we do acknowledge all faith and obedience with humble affection, beseeching God by whom Kings and Queens do reign to bless his majesty with long and happy years to reign over us.”
The Clerk ended up saying “God Save the King,” which the over200 people gathered in the room all then said ‘God save the King’ before documents were signed.
The Lord President Mordaunt, who is chairing the event, listed the next steps to the Proclamation, which included ordering the Proclamation to be read in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast and starting the gun salutes in Hyde Park and the Tower of London as soon as the King is proclaimed.
