Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria have arrested a suspected land grabber at Ibeju- Lekki, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Damilola Agbabiaka, 32, for allegedly conniving with others still at large to assault police officers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon, Lagos who were on lawful duty at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Police alleged that the Operatives acted on a petition by the Oreki Family of Ibeju-Lekki that suspected property grabbers invaded the property belonging to the Oreki Family and wilfully destroy and damage the building structures valued at N7.3m

Police further alleged that following the report, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of FCID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos swiftly despatched his crack team to the scene to arrest the suspects and restore order, but that the defendant and others still at large allegedly assaulted the Police team and prevented them from arresting the suspects.

Agbabiaka was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island on a five-count charge bordering on unlawfully assaulting police officers who were on lawful duty, wilful destruction of building structures and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Police Counsel, Amedu Adoga told the Court in the charge marked TB/41/2022 that the defendant committed the offence on 11 June 2022 in Lagos.

Adoga informed the Court that the defendant was arrested for conniving with others still at large to take the law into their hands and assaulted the police officers deployed to arrest the suspects who allegedly invaded a landed property belonging to the Oreki Family at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sessions 411, 350, 52, 117(2) and 174(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open Court and the Magistrate, Mr Paul Damilola granted him N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till 19 December 2022 for mention.
