One Akeem Adeleke, a member of a two man robbery gang who hijacked a truck loaded with industrial raw material from its driver along Lagos-Ibadan expressway at gun point have been arrested.

Adeleke was arrested after the driver of the truck driver alerted officers of police Federal Highway patrol stationed along the expressway that while he was driving his truck towards Ibadan, two unknown gunmen suddenly jumped into the vehicle and pushed him out.

The driver added that the robbers took over the vehicle from him and drove it towards Lagos, the spokesperson for Ogun Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement.

He added that following the complaint, the police patrol team started tracing the truck towards Lagos and they luckily sighted it somewhere along the road.

“Having noticed that policemen are trailing them, one of the robbers who was driving the truck jumped out on motion, but fell down and hit his head against the tarred road and he died on the spot.

“His accomplice, Akeem Adeleke was subsequently arrested and taken to Ewu-oliwo divisional headquarters.

“The DPO Ewu-oliwo division, CSP Toyosi Bello, accompanied the patrol team to the scene where the corpse of the dead robber was recovered to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue,” Abimbola said.

He said one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, two itel phones and some charms were recovered from the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.

The CP also warned criminals to stay clear of Ogun state, as they will always meet their Waterloo in any part of the state.
