A Kaduna High Court on Wednesday sentenced a man, Victor Timothy, to one-year imprisonment for N9 million fraud.

Justice Dairus Khobo handed down the verdict after Timothy pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of fraud brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Earlier, the EFCC Prosecution Counsel, P.C. Onyeneho, had told the court that Timothy was arrested on Feb. 28, in the Trikania Area of Kaduna based on credible intelligence that he was into internet fraud.

The anti-graft agency had accused the convict of fraudulently obtaining money in the sum of N9,700,000.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, is punishable under Section 309 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

When the case was called, the prosecution urged the court to allow the convict to take his plea again on the amended charge.

The Judge granted the application and when the charge was read to the convict, he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Following his plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the case, after which he urged the court to convict Timothy as charged.
