Former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has charged the new executives of Eko Club to initiate 50 years plan on sustainable development.

Fashola, who was honoured with Eko Club double Excellence awards for his great performance as minister, said the new executives must look inward on the next sustainable projects to be executed and maintained for the next 50 years.

The former governor of Lagos State said this would be of good advantage if many of ” our children are educated on the history and right Cultural practices of Lagos State.”

He said the club had the pedigree to lead and put things straight accordingly, emphasising on how he used to come to the Eko Club as a child, and how well the change had come on its building and infrastructure.

Speaking at during the inauguration of the executives at the weekend, the new President of the Club, Rasaak Olugbenga Amodu, commended members of the Club for deeming it fit to choose him as the 22nd President of the Club.

He recalled that the journey, which started about 22 years ago when he used to follow his late dad, Alhaji Muritala Adisa Amodu to the Club had been crowned with his determination and love for the club since then.

Amodiu said that he reminisced into the glorious past, especially the lofty thoughts of the founding fathers, the wise men, a group of childhood friends who on return from abroad continued to share a common vision that birthed Eko Club 49 years ago at their meeting point in Alhaji Sikiru Agoro a.k.a. Father’s shop at Williams Street, Lagos Island.

“My dedication and love for the club had continued to inflame my desire to serve in various capacities through the past years in four distinguished positions as welfare officers, general secretary, vice president and now as the president,” he said.

Amodu maintained that since he was sworn-in on February 28th, 2023, he had been privileged to work with vibrant, dedicated and brilliant young young minds, who together had ensured a smooth day to day running of the affairs of the club.

Chairman of Occasion, Hon. Justice Ishola Olorunnibe, narrated how great philosophers came together in 1974 to create the Club for the development of Lagos State and to assist the club members to promote healthy living and its prosperity.
