Lagos rewards 753 public servants with Long Service Merit Award

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday rewarded 753 public servants who have served the state meritorious in the last 30 years and above, with Long Service Award.

The award is part of this year’s annual Public Service Week aimed at celebrating the exploits of public servants.

Speaking at the event which took place at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Lagos Government Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos, Head of Service (HoS), Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the aim of the award was to deliberately recognise and reward diligence, commitment and loyalty among public servants in Lagos State with the hope that the periodic exercise would motivate public servants to be more dedicated to the course of effective service delivery in the Centre of Excellence, while encouraging awardees to continue in their efficiency and effectiveness.

“Today’s Award ceremony is celebrating the accomplishments and contribution of 753 officers who have been nominated for recognition, in continuation of this laudable tradition of appreciating diligence and meritorious
service.

“In felicitating with the worthy recipients of today’s Award, I want to assure you all that your resilience, passion and knowledge shared throughout the years will remain honoured,” he said.

Muri-Okunola urged the awardees not to rest on their oars but rather, to continue to exhibit the high sense of responsibility, unparalleled commitment to duty and unalloyed loyalty, which are the qualities and values for which they were being recognized and honoured.

He commended the awardees for their unwavering commitment, professionalism, perseverance, innovations and initiatives thy have all exhibited in executing the numerous tasks assigned to them since joining the service.

The HoS urged all public servants to continue to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively to the best of their abilities bearing in mind that the annual celebration of the Public Service Week, is in itself a recognition of the importance of public servants to the development of the societies, States and Country at large.

“Therefore, while recognizing the very important role of public servants to effective governance, let me state that the changing nature of public policy environment, emerging social realities and technological innovations continually require higher levels of skills, knowledge and competences from us today, more than ever before.

“As we revel in the accomplishments of our long serving public servants, let us recommit ourselves to the value they have upheld by striving for excellence, embracing innovation through technology and foster a culture of
inclusiveness and collaboration with the Lagos State Public Service.

“Together, we can build a future that is brighter, more prosperous and more responsive to the needs of the citizens. Let me reiterate that, government, on its part, will continue to provide conducive working environment, as well as the tools for the attainment of policy objectives that will continue to enhance staff development, while their welfare
would, of course, remain a top priority,” he stated.
