Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic to win the Wimbledon grand slam title on Sunday after a pulsating encounter in the United Kingdom.

The 20-year-old who is World Number one shrugged off a stiffer challenge to beat Djokovic to win his second grand slam.

Alcaraz defeated the tennis superstar 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 to claim the title and becomes the new King of Wimbledon.

The defending champion Djokovic was seeking record-equaling 24th Grand Slam titles and a victory today would equal Roger Federer’s men’s record of eight Wimbledon titles.

Djokovic had not lost on Centre Court for 10 years, but Alcaraz is now the youngest Wimbledon champion since Boris Becker in 1986.

But the 36-year-old Serb was outlasted by top seed Alcaraz, who underlined his class by winning a second major title.

Alcaraz, who won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year, celebrated by falling flat on his face and kicking a ball into the crowd after taking his first match point.

The majority of a packed Centre Court, which included the Prince and Princess of Wales, actor Brad Pitt and two-time winner Andy Murray, rose to their feet to acclaim the All England Club’s newest champion.
