Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev in the U.S. Open final Sunday, in three thrilling straight sets, 6-3 7-6 6-3, also righted the wrongs of his 2021 defeat.
With the victory, the Serb earned his fourth US Open title out of 10 finals and claimed a record equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title.
The tally draws him level alongside Margaret Court.
Djokovic also becomes the first player in the open era to win three Grand Slams in a year four times.
This year, he won the Australian Open and French Open before losing in the Wimbledon final.
On Monday, Djokovic will become the world No.1 for the fourth time in his illustrious career.
He is the oldest US Open men’s champion in the Open Era and dedicated his victory to his late friend, Kobe Bryant, by wearing Kobe’s custom designed shirt No.24, with the inscription ‘Mamba Forever’.
The shirt bore the photo of Kobe and Djokovic.
