American rapper Shawn Corey Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, is apparently planning a takeover attempt for Tottenham Hotspur.

This comes after Spurs owner Joe Lewis was accused of insider trading. Lewis would be compelled to give up his ownership of the team if convicted, according to Premier League rules.

In the midst of all, The Mirror reports that Jay-Z is waiting in the wings to enter.

The 53-year-old, who is worth over £1.95 billion, has already expressed interest in investing in Tottenham’s north London rivals, Arsenal, so it remains to be seen if his investment in Spurs will be well received by the club’s fans.

Jay-Z stated that Thierry Henry inspired him to support the Gunners, although a partnership with the club never materialised.

“I don’t know a lot about the business of football,” he stated in 2010, “but in the future, if the right opportunity presented itself, who knows?”

Tottenham could benefit from fresh ownership after becoming a touch stale in recent years, but Jay-Z isn’t exactly an experienced football club owner.

He is, nevertheless, a co-owner of NBA’s New Jersey Nets.
