The Avalon Daily has hosted a thought-provoking Policy Dialogue on the economy, centered on the critical themes of job creation and poverty reduction in Nigeria.
The dialogue held at at Café One, Lekki, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including economist and business leaders. The objective is to facilitate an informed and constructive discussion on the pressing challenges related to job creation and poverty reduction in Nigeria. tral. The keynote presentation is delivered by leading economist, Mr. Tope Fasua.
Speaking on the government role in creating enabling environment, Tope Fasua emphasized the importance of the government investing in people and creating an enabling environment to avoid being marginalized on the global stage. He suggested that jobs can be generated in the environmental and social sectors, and that the government’s role includes reorienting and engaging with the youth. He advocated for embracing domestic consumption and promoting innovative entrepreneurship, rather than just buying and selling. Fasua also highlighted the need to address poverty as a mentality and to understand the impact of foreign exchange. In his words he said emphatically, “We are now a country that is being kicked out, regarded as ‘Wild Animals’ in other countries. If politicians does not invest in people, they will never rest”.
