Netizens have been reacting to the sack of Thaddeus Attah, the lawmaker elected on the platform of the Labour Party to represent Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives by the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Lagos.
Attah was declared the winner of the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the February 25, National Assembly election with 24,075 votes.
He defeated Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, music producer and musician who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and came second with 18,668 votes and the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro (IBO) who scored 16,901 votes.
However, the victory of Attah against the more popular Banky W had come as a surprise to many as unlike his musician opponent, he was not seen campaigning anywhere during the election.
It was also believed that Attah cashed in on the popularity of the LP in the federal constituency as people just voted for the party without considering the candidates.
Banky W had shared a video of himself during Sunday service at a church, expressing his disappointment at the loss of the election.
The father of one disclosed that he had made huge preparations for his victory, which included a Sunday Thanksgiving programme, searching for an apartment and office in Abuja, and others.
However, Banky W and Obanikoro challenged the declaration of Attah as the winner of the election.
The tribunal, in its ruling delivered on Monday evening, nullified the return of Attah as it declared that elections did not hold in 33 polling units.
It also ordered INEC to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections did not hold.
Supporters of Banky W said the ruling of the tribunal has given the musician another opportunity to win the election. But others said the verdict was another plot to install a member of href=”https://pmnewsnigeria.com/”>APC as the Rep member for the constituency.
