Alhaji Hamisu Danjibga: missing journalist found dead

The Zamfara Police Command said it has arrested a 35-year-old man, Mansur Haruna, over the murder of veteran Journalist and staff of Voice of Nigeria, Hamisu Danjibga.

The Police Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, in Gusau on Friday said Haruna was arrested with a Gionee cell phone suspected to belong to the deceased journalist.

The Police Command assured that it will carry out a thorough investigation into the murder of Danjibga, who was the Zamfara State Correspondent, Hausa Service of the VON.

The journalist was missing for three days before his corpse was found in a soak-away behind his house last Wednesday.
The Police spokesperson said the command received information about the missing journalist from the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ibrahim Musa.

According to him, the Journalist had been missing since Sunday, Sept. 16.

“On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Tudun-wada Division in Gusau, the state capital mobilised a team of detectives to conduct an investigation into the circumstances.

“At about 1:33hrs, on Sept. 20, the information further revealed that the decomposed corpse of the journalist was found in a soak-away behind the house of the deceased.”

“The case is under investigation, any further development will be communicated to the general public accordingly.

“The command under the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalijan, commiserated with the family, members of the NUJ, management of VON Hausa service and the entire state over the death of the veteran journalist,” the PPRO further said.
