Police rescue 8 CAC members from kidnappers

Police operatives in Ondo have rescued eight out of the 25 members of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC abducted on Friday afternoon by gunmen at Elegbeka in Ose Local Government Area of the state.

Ondo Police Command spokesperson, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, announced the rescue of kidnap victims who are members of the Christ Apostolic Church(CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, the state capital in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

The Police had earlier confirmed the abduction of the worshipers said to be mostly members of the choir of the CAC church.

According to the police, the CAC Church members were said to be travelling in the church bus to Ifon, in the Ose council area of the state for a burial ceremony, when they were waylaid and dragged into the bush by the gunmen.

Though Police did not give the total number of abducted church members, reports had indicated that there were 25 people taken away by the gunmen.

However, SP Odunlami-Omisanya, in a statement said the eight victims were rescued unhurt.

She said those rescued were seven women and one man, while efforts were on to rescue others unhurt.

“Good news!, 8 victims rescued, effort is on to rescue others unhurt.

“The victims said that they were on their way to a wake keep; on getting to Ajagbale via Elegbeka on Ifon/Owo expressway, they were accosted by five gunmen who shot sporadically and forcefully took them into the bush,” she said.
