Newcastle United’s hope of qualifying for the knockout stage of the champions league hang in the balance as they lost 2-0 to Dortmund on Tuesday.

Newcastle have now lost back to back to Dortmund, having lost 0-1 in England two weeks ago to the German side.

Dortmund, thus moved to the top of Group F, regarded as ‘Group of Death,” with seven points, while Newcastle have four points.

Dortmund opened scoring mid-way into the first half. Marcel Sabitzer provided Niclas Fullkrug with a nice pass inside the box. It allowed him to finish with a precise effort under the bar.

Just before the first half, a header by Joelinton from very close range went towards the top left corner, but did not get past Gregor Kobel, who made a brilliant save.

Dortmund made it 2-0 late into the second half. Julian Brandt ran onto a pass from Karim Adeyemi after great counter attacking play and hit a fine first-time shot into the net from close range.
