Nigerians have been battling challenges including; the high costs of feeding and transportation, and high inflation rate since the removal of fuel subsidies and the recent hike in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
The pump price of Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been on a steady rise in the country for some months now.
Between May and August 2023, the price of 12.5kg LPG rose from N9,500 to N12,000, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) quoted in its May 2023 report.
Currently, the same 12.5kg goes for between N14,500 and N15,000.
The increase in the global market and continuous decline of Naira have left wholesalers and retailers of LPG (popularly known as cooking gas) with no choice but to increase the product’s prices.
This has been having crushing effects on consumers.
It has put many households as well as businesses in dire straits.
A consumer and student of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Dorcas Adeyeye, said “The increase in gas price is affecting me as a student because now I fill up 3 Kg for N3,300 which before was N2,850”.
Also, a resident of Ogba Mr. Wuni Daniel said that the price hike was “life-threatening”.
“I now fill 12kg for N12,000 which is affecting my household, because I haven’t received an increment in salary.”
Nigerians are dissatisfied with the situation in the country and are pleading with the government to help find immediate and lasting solutions to the rising inflation affecting all sectors.
