Shun culture of violence, disruption, Mrs Obaseki counsels students

The wife of the Edo State Governor, Betsy Obaseki, has counselled students against activities that could lead to disruption of their academic pursuits.

She gave the counsel on Wednesday during a courtesy visit of the newly elected executives of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

The newly elected SUG executives were led by its President, Alpha King Lemuel, and were introduced to the Edo First Lady by the outgoing President, Israel Nmoye.

Mrs Obaseki who expressed satisfaction with the meeting, emphasized the crucial role of responsible leadership among students, even as she urged the SUG representatives to align with the intended purpose of their roles.

“I’m pleased to meet you, and it is imperative that your actions do not deviate from the intended purpose of your roles. Strive to guide your fellow students away from the culture of violence and disruption,” she said.

Earlier in their respective statements, the SUG executives affirmed their dedication to ongoing collaboration for the welfare of the student community.

President Alpha King Lemuel underscored their commitment to building on existing structures and initiating endeavors that would not only benefit the university but also extend positive impacts to the states and contribute at the national level.

Acknowledging the warm reception, Vice President Allison Nafisat who expressed gratitude to Mrs Obaseki, affirmed their commitment to maintaining a sustained relationship.

She acknowledged the Governor’s wife’s role as a mother figure to the student community, even as she assured that the values of her collaboration and support would be upheld.

The visit exemplifies a strong commitment to collaborative efforts for student welfare and emphasizes the importance of open communication and shared responsibility among the student leadership.
